At qbee, we believe great technology starts with great people. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our new Chief Technology Officer, Piotr. With over two decades of experience across the tech stack—and a deep passion for building practical, reliable solutions—Piotr brings the mindset, leadership, and engineering vision that will shape qbee’s platform for the future. In this interview, he shares what motivates him, how he sees our technology evolving, and why culture and trust are just as important as code.

Technology & Motivation

  1. What motivated you to take on the CTO role here at qbee?

When I discovered qbee in 2022, I immediately saw its potential. After successfully completing several major initiatives, I left to pursue other engagements—but qbee always stayed on my mind. Now, as the company and board saw an opportunity to take the platform to the next level, we reconnected—and I returned to qbee as CTO to lead the engineering team and help shape the future roadmap

  1. What’s your background in tech, and what are you most passionate about?

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve worked across the full stack of technology—from networking and low-level system internals to large-scale cloud-native architectures. I’ve led and contributed to a range of complex projects, including building global digital content distribution platforms and modernizing critical infrastructure for IoT and media. I’m most passionate about solving real-world problems with practical, reliable solutions. Whether it’s optimizing cost and performance at scale or simplifying complex workflows, I thrive on building systems that are both robust and easy to use. At the core, I’m driven by curiosity, a love for clean, purposeful engineering, and a deep respect for the people who use the tools we create.

  1. What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on so far – and why?

One of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on was the final-generation coordinator for the UltraViolet digital rights locker system. It was a distributed system built on AWS, integrating with over 10 major digital content retailers and serving more than 30 million users across 13 countries. What made it exciting wasn’t just the scale—it was the opportunity to dramatically simplify the system, cut operational costs by orders of magnitude, and improve reliability and maintainability in the process. It was a perfect blend of technical complexity, real impact, and meaningful collaboration.

Vision & Priorities

  1. What do you see as the key technology priorities for qbee going forward?

As we pursue several strategic milestones on our roadmap, our focus will be on enabling rapid evolution while maintaining the stability, scalability, and security our customers rely on. In the coming weeks, we’ll be assessing how our product development and operations can best support that growth, ensuring we continue to deliver with speed, quality, and confidence.

  1. How do you ensure technology aligns with and supports business goals?

In the spirit of the qbee way, I’ll ensure technology aligns with business goals by staying closely connected to both our internal teams and the people who use our platform. That means fostering open communication, setting clear shared priorities, and continuously validating that we’re solving real problems. I plan to spend time with customers, leads, and the embedded community to keep us grounded in real-world needs—not assumptions. Internally, I’ll support a culture of transparency, lean iteration, and purposeful improvement so our technology becomes a natural extension of our business strategy, not a separate track.

  1. What’s your perspective on “build vs. buy” – and how do you decide?

Both approaches are valid, and it’s important to weigh the pros and cons case by case. From a customer perspective: should you build your own device fleet management solution or buy one from qbee? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. What I can offer is a conversation—I’d love to learn more about your business and help you understand the potential benefits and trade-offs of each option in your specific context.

Culture, Collaboration & Leadership

  1. How would you describe your leadership style as a CTO?

I’d describe my leadership style as open, respectful, and people-first. I value honesty, fairness, and transparency—and I believe trust is the foundation of any successful team. Everyone should feel safe to give and receive candid feedback, be treated like an adult, and know their contributions matter. I also believe strongly in protecting work-life balance. People do their best work when they’re well-rested and supported, not when they’re stretched thin. As part of my role, I take responsibility for setting a realistic and sustainable roadmap—so we can achieve great things without burning out our people. This approach is very much in the spirit of the qbee way—building quality in, thinking sustainably, and deeply respecting the people behind the work.

  1. What do you think is essential for building a strong and effective development team?

To build a strong and effective development team, I believe you need a foundation of trust, psychological safety, and mutual respect. I want to encourage everyone around me to ask questions, challenge ideas, and give honest feedback. Setting clear goals, sharing ownership, and communicating openly are key to staying aligned and motivated. I want the qbee team to continuously learn and recognize that everyone brings unique strengths. Cultivating the right culture is essential—because when the environment is right, people will naturally do their best work.

  1. How can development and operations work better together under your leadership?

For development and operations to work better together, it starts with mutual trust, clear communication, and a shared sense of purpose. Under my leadership, I’ll focus on strengthening that collaboration by promoting a strong DevOps culture, setting clear and aligned goals, and continuously improving our processes. I’ll also encourage cross-functional teamwork and invest in smart automation—so we can reduce friction, move faster, and deliver with higher quality and consistency.

Customers & External Impact

  1. What do you hope our customers and partners will notice about our technology going forward?

I hope our customers and partners will increasingly notice how qbee continues to improve the user, developer, and operational experience—while remaining transparent and reliable. We’re focused on evolving the platform in thoughtful, incremental ways: streamlining processes, reducing complexity, and investing in technology that lifts efficiency across the board. With a strong emphasis on intuitive design and self-service capabilities, our goal is to make qbee even easier to use and integrate. This ongoing effort will help us grow as an even more consistent, responsive, and trusted partner.

  1. How do you see the tech organization contributing to better customer experiences?

The tech organization will contribute to better customer experiences by staying closely aligned with our users’ real-world needs and challenges. We’ll prioritize clear communication, engage proactively with customers, and collaborate across teams to ensure our solutions remain relevant and valuable. By refining the qbee platform with a focus on intuitive design, reliability, and continuous improvement, we aim to deliver meaningful, practical value—so our customers can focus fully on what matters most: growing their core business with confidence.
