qbee Device Management for Phytec Hardware

PHYTEC‘s corporate vision is “to embed your ideas”: We are helping our customers to reduce complexity in every stage of developing the embedded solution for their device. This allows our customers to focus on their main strengths. We make sure that the hardware is stable and reliant as well as prepared with software for the demands to come.

But embedded systems do not consist only of hardware: They also – yes, surprise – contain a real big software part. Be it the BSP as “the glue” between the hardware and the operating system (OS), the OS or of course the application(s) on top.

All these software parts must stay up-to-date and secure. During their lifetime many security fixes and of course updates in functionality have to be delivered. As edge devices are deployed in the thousands, it is imperative that there is a secure and reliable way to do this remotely over the air (OTA): this is where Update and Device Management solutions become important.

Unfortunately, many of the existing solutions still only focus on global deployments with a very large number of devices. For a small or medium sized company these solutions are often too expensive or too complex. We at Phytec believe that every one of our customers should be able to use an update and device management scaled to their needs: security is a paramount feature for embedded devices. Making this as easy as possible is one of the goals of qbee.io. Phytec and qbee partner to optimize their portfolio and the solutions for the company’s customers.

The qbee UDM solution fits perfectly with PHYTEC because it is qbees mission to make such a critical piece of software accessible and easy to implement: Even for smaller teams or companies. qbee uses the same technology many of our customers use for their deployments: A Linux based device, most often created through the Yocto build chain. Adding the open-source agent to the Phytec BSPs is therefore an easy task. Any questions?

The features of qbee’s solution are available in an easy to use web interface and cover a wide range of relevant topics:

  • The agent running on your devices is open source (https://github.com/qbee-io/qbee-agent)
  • Secure remote access to all of your devices
  • CVE vulnerability scanning
  • A/B image updates, rollout in waves is available
  • Container management interface
  • Device and process monitoring
